How do I Ensure my Child is on the Path to College? Math Support Services
Be aware that the question you need to ask is not: “What do I need to graduate?” The real question is: “What do I need to be college ready?” These are very different questions. Complicating things further, California colleges will stop offering remediation courses beginning in 2019. This includes the Junior Colleges. Students must be ready to complete college level math and English in their freshman year. Completing four years of math in high school is now crucial!
Preparation is key, and begins as early as sixth grade! The pathway chosen for your child prior to 7th grade sets the path for College opportunities, STEM careers, and life. Recently, the graduation requirement for math was raised to 30 credits; and to be competitive for college, four years are necessary. College may seem far away; however, in order to complete a competitive math program, accelerated and advanced math must begin when they enter junior high school. A deficiency in one semester can stop students from satisfying the complete college prep sequence.
Math Support is now approved by the WSHSD to offer a wide variety of options to increase readiness for advanced courses.
Math Support is accredited, approved and aligned with the Hart District so you can be confident. We provide all math and science courses for credit. This summer you can repeat a class or “get ahead”. For example: Complete a full year of Geometry any time after 8th grade and make room to take Calculus or Statistics prior to gradation.
Providing support is a wise investment. This can be accomplished by completing Bridge courses, strengthening weak areas, and/or preparing for advanced courses.
