How You Help Many Children
Assistance League® Santa Clarita had the privilege of participating in the Many Families – One Community Family Resource Fair sponsored by The Sulphur Springs Union School District and the William S. Hart Union High School District. Each year, the purpose of the fair is to increase the understanding and knowledge for families and staff as to how they can use community resources to support children and families. The main gym at Golden Valley High School was filled with booths representing organizations that benefit children in the Santa Clarita community. Assistance League Santa Clarita was invited to participate because of our philanthropic programs, Operation School Bell® and icare for kids.
Operation School Bell is a resource for children in need in the Santa Clarita Valley. Last year Operation School Bell provided the opportunity for over 2200 students from every public school in the Santa Clarita Valley to go shopping and select new school clothes and shoes of their own choice. Also included were some College of the Canyon students, participants in their RISE Program, who have aged out of the foster care system. Funds from Operation School Bell also provide eye examinations and eyeglasses, through our icare for kids program, to students who are identified by their schools as needing glasses, but whose families cannot afford them.
Donors to Assistance League Resale make Operation School Bell possible. When donations are brought to our door, volunteers sort and categorize items so they can be displayed for sale in the front of the store. Money made from our sales, and donations received from our valued Community Partners, translates to our ability to fund Operation School Bell. Happy children who feel good about how they look in their new appropriate school clothing can perform more successfully in their studies. Those who receive needed eyeglasses see a whole new world of opportunity provided by improved vision. All is made possible by our faithful donors and buyers. Santa Clarita Valley truly is, Many families – One Community.
Assistance League Resale is located at 24364 Main Street in downtown Newhall. We welcome your donations any time our store is open. For more information please visit our website: www.assistanceleaguesantaclarita.org.
