Drowning Simulation for Awareness
Last month during the Academy Swim Club Spring Swim Meet, first responders performed a drowning re-enactment to educate everyone on water safety. The whole point of this was to raise awareness for Water Safety, since most drownings occur between the months of April to September. Academy Swim covered the spectrum; drowning victim, lifeguard rescue, CPR and the Fire Dept. – #156 even stopped by to make it feel like an emergency situation.
“This is something we haven’t done for at least 10 years, but we always used to do,” shared Nikki Miller, Academy Swim Club owner. “There were 12 near-drowning incidents last summer. Thankfully none were fatal drownings. We just want our community to be drowning free, that’s why we do what we do!”
