What are the Factors of Student Success?
It is very clear that raw intelligence is not enough to guarantee success. Studies show that there is little difference in success between children with an above average intelligence in comparison to a child identified as a genius.
Raw talent is just not enough, focus on a particular interest and an extreme amount of effort is also necessary. Most sports stars, musicians, inventors, computer stars, will have spent a minimum of 10,000 hours immersed in their interest before they emerge as stand outs.
It is also necessary to have come from a home that provides support for interests. Parents who are involved and have the economic resources to add private instructional opportunities will see increased “talent” become evident.
Even the differences in parenting styles make a difference. Less structured after school activities allowing kids to “just be kids” preferred by middle class families, has been shown to be less effective than structured after school activities, preferred by upper income homes. Activities that keep students engaged, learning, fostering competition and focus teach focus and develop self-discipline along with the ability to manage time more effectively.
Providing consistent educational opportunities year-round including tutoring and enrichment provides advantages that produce a motivated and engaged child. Math Support has programs for all ability levels.
Currently 80 percent of the available jobs require some type of post high school education. We are the only industrialized economy where more people are entering the work force less educated than the generation leaving the work force! Let us help your child to be college ready!
