Balloon Sinuplasty or Sinus Dilation
I have had sinus infections and facial pressure for years! Why put a removable balloon catheter in my nose to open my sinuses?
This new procedure is perfect for patients with mild to Moderate sinus inflammation and obstruction, as well as facial pain and pressure from blocked sinuses.
It has the advantage that it can be done under sedation, without the need for general anesthesia.
This minimally invasive procedure is done in-office, under local anesthetic of the sinuses (similar to a dental block) with an oral sedative. The patient may have a light meal prior to this procedure unlike the 8 hours of fasting for general anesthesia.
Sinus Dilation
Endoscopic telescopes are used to evaluates and illuminate the sinus openings (Ostia).
If there is blockage, a microforceps or microshaver is used under navigational guidance and/or direct endoscopic vision to remove the blocked tissue in a minimally invasive technique
Dilation is Performed of each sinus
Individually with the balloon dilator that is removed.
The obstructing tissue is cleaned and the mucus is irrigated out of the sinus using a gentle suction irrigator.
Results have been incredible with 70 to 80 percent of patients stating that their headaches were immediately lessened. Most patient are relieved with less facial pain and without recurrent infections.
The need for antibiotics and steroids dropped by over 70 percent in most patients.
This is incredible new technology and procedure performed by the doctors of SCENT.
