Pet Environmentalists
As interest in protecting our beautiful planet grows, many wish to become more environmentally sensitive pet owners. While it can be challenging to be a perfect environmentalist, every little bit helps. Here are some tips for being a green pet owner.
-Use compostable pet relief bags when walking your dog. In some areas you can install a pet waste composter in your yard. Consider this as an alternative to using the trash but do your research first!
– Keep cats indoors. It’s a prudent choice to protect your kitty from predators, but it also prevents your cat from killing birds. Domestic cats are credited with preying upon 1.3 billion birds a year. With recent reports of profound bird decline, we can have an impact here.
-Use curbside recycling for pet food cans and recyclable bags. If your pet food bag is not labeled with a recycling symbol but does appear to be plastic, many high-end companies such as Royal Canin and Science diet offer recycling options. Check into availability with your pets’ food company.
-Support a veterinary clinic committed to reducing their carbon footprint. The medical community is notorious for creating waste, as many medical products used in surgery or with drugs are single use for public safety. At Copper Hill, our pill vials are recyclable, reuse is even kinder to the environment. If you are interested in reusing pill vials for prescription refills, we can use the same vial and re-label it appropriately. Grab one of our reusable blue bags for your larger items. Feel confident that when you visit our practice, we are using motion sensor LED light fixtures, smart thermostats, curbside recycling, green cleaning products and paid recycling through Terracycle for our hard to recycle plastics. We even installed a bird and pollinator friendly drought tolerant garden alongside our practice.
Please call Copper Hill Animal Clinic at 661-296-8848 to schedule an appointment.
