Well It’s Finally Happened, The Lights Are Not Going On

by | Oct 28, 2019 | Home & Garden

The day of turning on your light switch and expecting the lights to go on, can no longer be taken for granted. Our once reliable source of electrical power is no longer reliable. We now live in the time of rolling blackouts and the now scheduled “Public Safety Power Shut-offs”. If you have been following the recent news events, during high wind conditions you will now have to adjust your everyday living. The reason for this is the result of the worst wildfire season, which happened last October of 2018. These fires were devastating. They caused a major loss of life, and also created a major amount of property loss. As a result, the largest California power utility company (PG&E) accumulated enough lawsuits to force them into bankruptcy.
All Power Utility companies will now have to limit power especially during extreme weather such as high winds. Obviously, hospitals, schools, nursing homes, and government municipalities will get a steady amount of power deliveries for the sake of public safety. As for you and your family, power will be delivered on a limited basis. As a result, you will have to adjust. Some of these adjustments are simple, such as stocking up on a three to seven-day water and food supply, batteries, and if your budget permits a portable gas-powered generator to reduce food loss.
Now for the good news, the new generation of generators are here and very affordable. They offer automatic operation, which means you don’t have to be there to turn them on, they have a constant fuel source that runs on your existing natural gas or LP fuel supply. They are powered directly to your home, which eliminates the messy extension cords; and they can be managed using your smartphone, tablet, or a PC. When grouped with your solar panel system, they can take the place of expensive solar battery backup systems.
