When Do You Need to Floss? Before or After Brushing?

The answer is … it doesn’t matter when as long as you do a good job at it! You just need to find a couple of minutes within the day that’s easy for you to focus on your flossing. You could do it in the morning, after lunch or before going to bed. It’s better to do it than not do it at all so find the time that works the best for you.
Please note that flossing should not be painful. If it is for you, you may be doing it too hard. Or you may already have damaged tissue between your teeth in which case you should visit your dentist at your earliest convenience. On the flip side, you may not be getting the proper cleaning done if you are too gentle. If you have never flossed before, it may feel a bit awkward or uncomfortable. Important thing is that you keep up with it and you will get used to it within a week or two. Don’t forget to keep up with your regular tooth brushing too!
Also, children should be flossing as well! How early do you start? As soon as they have two teeth that touch! It may be tough for the kids to do their own flossing since it does demand more manual dexterity than children have. As such, they may not be able to do a thorough job on their own until age 10 or 11 so you may need to help them a bit.
