Volunteer with American Cancer Society
Some people argue that the Holiday Season of Giving has turned into the Consumerist Season of Shopping. Granted, there is some truth to this, but the holidays are also a time of being grateful and celebrating blessings with family and friends. If we take time to reflect on our own lives and how we can contribute to the well-being of others, the focus of the season becomes on people and not things.
As this year comes to a close and the New Year is upon us, it’s a good time to think about the kinds of commitments we want to make in our lives and how we can work toward something that feels important. Volunteering with an organization provides the perfect pathway. When we serve others, we gain insights into ourselves, discover our strengths and increase our compassion for others. We make lifelong friends and lasting memories. Giving of ourselves to a cause is one of the most rewarding ways to express our passions and values.
The American Cancer Society’s Santa Clarita unit invites you to get involved. The American Cancer Society is 98% volunteer run, and our local ACS chapter couldn’t achieve its goals without the support of generous volunteers. There are many opportunities to take leadership roles. You can share experiences in cancer support groups, provide rides to cancer patients, work in the ACS office, or become a Relay For Life team leader or volunteer. Your efforts will help to create awareness about cancer, fund research to find a cure, and support those going through cancer treatment.
ACS would like to express its gratitude to those community members who have generously donated and provided tireless support. It’s inspiring to have so many volunteers, donors, and community leaders creating a partnership that works toward saving lives every day. Becoming a volunteer, making a tax-deductible donation, or participating in a fundraising event contributes to this worthy cause. There is no better way to end the year than by making a commitment to give back to our community.
