American Cancer Society – Discovery Shop
A new shop in town will be opening in March. The American Cancer Society Discovery Shop is an upscale resale store featuring gently used collectibles, clothing, jewelry and more. Located in the Bouquet Shopping Center at 26570-B Bouquet Canyon Rd., it will be open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed Sunday. It’s a place to discover treasures and learn about the work that ACS does in our community.
The shop’s proceeds fund ACS programs and research. Here in Santa Clarita, ACS provides free services for cancer patients. These include the free wig program for patients undergoing chemo, transportation to and from treatment appointments through the Road to Recovery program, and hotel accommodations through the Hotel Partners program for patients receiving treatment in Santa Clarita. The ACS Discovery Shop may be the first contact that people have with the American Cancer Society, so the shop will provide brochures with information about cancer support services.
Store manager Josette Guidos says she is excited that a Discovery Shop is opening in Santa Clarita after decades without one. She is humbled by the enormous support from community members who have donated clothes, shoes, accessories and home décor. She hopes many creative people will want to show their skills and volunteer to work in the shop as merchandisers, decorators, sales staff or donation processers. She hopes to create a family environment where people do what they love while making a difference.
In 1965, ACS volunteer Denise Noel opened the first Discovery Shop in San Fernando. Currently, there are 49 shops in the Western region of California, Oregon and Washington. Santa Clarita is in line to become number 50. In 2019, Discovery Shops nationwide raised $22,000,000 to fund programs, services, and cancer research.
ACS relies on consumer generosity, so shop, donate or volunteer at the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop, and feel good while you’re doing it. For Discovery Shop information contact Josette at josette.guidos@cancer.org
