Why Are My Windows Dirty After It Rains?
Spring has sprung and the cleaning has begun! Many homeowners want to get their windows cleaned but are reluctant because of the inevitable late season shower.
Rain isn’t what makes the windows dirty. Rain is actually very clean; it is essentially distilled water. In fact, in many areas around the world, window cleaners prefer to use harvested rainwater. If your windows are clean before the rain, the propensity for this pure rainwater to spot is greatly reduced. So, if rain isn’t the main culprit, what is to blame?
Screens – the real villain. Screens prevent dirt, pollen, pests, and other debris from entering our homes and damaging our windows. As rain contacts a dirty screen, it transfers this debris to the glass where it is left to dry and accumulate. Clean windows will not last if screens are not cleaned as well.
Window cleaning serves two purposes: improve home aesthetics and maintain the glass surface. As a minimum, semi-annual window cleaning will enhance the beauty of your home and extend the life of your windows. To keep them clean, make sure to ask your window cleaning professional to add screens to your window cleaning project. Be aware however, as some windows do not have screens, screen cleaning is normally a separate charge.
