Animals Helping Us Through the Pandemic
While many of us are sitting at home it can feel sad and overwhelming during these times. In an effort to lighten everyone’s mental stress I thought I would bring together a collection of upbeat animal facts. These can be helpful for entertaining young children stuck at home who have already finished the days e-learning, we’re entertaining our children a lot lately too!
Did you know:
That a Narwhals tusk is actually a tooth? Even more interesting is that the tooth has many sen-sory nerve endings, so the tooth can ‘feel’ lots of things.
Cats have been our pets for a long time. A pet cat was buried with its owner in Cyprus about 9,500 years ago.
Capuchin monkeys use their urine to clean hands and feet. Oh dear, will that protect them from coronavirus? (My son loved that fact) It’s actually a sexual behavior meant to increase their at-tractiveness to females.
Dogs nose prints are as individual as human fingerprints and can be used to identify them. My dog likes to leave her identifying nose print on my clean sliding glass door so we know she was there.
Goats who come from different parts of the world have accents associated with that region.
Ducks like to surf. They have been observed riding waves to the shore and then paddling out again to catch another wave.
Young elephants suck on their trunks for reassurance, like a toddler sucking on their thumb.
Stay safe everyone!
