Veterinary Care in the Time of Coronavirus
I hope this article finds you and your loved ones safe and healthy. Our veterinary hospital remains open and busier than ever before to help you and your pets. Thank you for your support.
We are seeing a lot of interesting medical issues during this time. We’re seeing our regular Springtime allergies: watery eyes, sneezing, coughing and itchy skin. But we’re also seeing some problems directly related to working from home. Here are some things to watch for.
1. Gastrointestinal (GI) problems. Many pets have sensitive GI tracts and people staying at home may be giving more treats or snacks. Try to keep their diets as regular as possible. If you need to switch food because you can’t find your pet’s regular diet, try to stick to the same flavor.
2. Musculoskeletal injuries. Pet owners are doing a good job of getting outside and keeping active. This is a great way to battle obesity in both ourselves and our pets, but go slow. Overuse injuries are on the rise. Increase walks gradually.
3. Overheating. As the weather warms up, watch closely for heat stress. Go on walks in the morning and evenings. Allow pets access to plenty of water. Avoid hot pavement that can burn paws.
As people continue to stay at home, let’s keep our pets as healthy as we can. Call us if you need anything; we are here for you and your animals. Stay safe, be kind to one another, and wash your hands.
