Medical Innovation at Helm Vision Group
With nearly three decades worth of experience, Dr. Craig J. Romero Helm and his team have provided their patients with stellar service and quality care, always evolving with the newest innovations and procedures. Recently, Helm Vision Group implemented a new way to treat cataracts with laser cataract surgery. Cataracts are “a clouding of the natural lens inside your eye that blocks your vision, making it difficult to do things like read or see signs,” explained Dr. Helm. The risk of this disease is very common, becoming even more so with age. Patients and doctors are seeing stellar outcomes and benefits from laser cataract surgery, including more accurate results and faster healing times.
Unlike traditional surgery, the use of the laser makes it easier to remove the cataract using a blade-free technique. “This laser represents Swiss technology at its finest!” added Dr. Helm. “Other lasers can be very finicky. This laser is very solidly built and is highly accurate.” With this latest technology, Helm Vision Group is ensuring their patients receive the best possible outcomes. “The Ziemer FEMTO LDV Z8 uses the lowest pulse energy to do the job. That means that with less energy needed to perform, it causes less inflammation and makes the surgery a more gentle experience,” Dr. Helm continued. The laser is programmable and automates certain steps of the procedure, making it more precise. “Patients have noted the healing times are faster, ranging from weeks to days,” Dr. Helm commented.
The laser is also utilized in other procedures to better patient outcomes. Dr. Helm shared, “This laser is incredibly versatile. We can also use it to do corneal transplant surgery. The laser can make complex incisions that result in a stronger bond between a donor cornea and the host cornea. Basically, any type of corneal surgery that required a blade in the past can now be done more accurately and precisely with this laser. We are very excited to bring this technology to the residents of the Santa Clarita Valley and surrounding areas.”
At Helm Vision Group, patients are the first priority. Dr. Helm’s 27 years of experience have allowed him to really understand the unique needs of his patients, and how important it is to provide advanced solutions for the best outcomes. He acknowledges how crucial having the latest technology is in order to deliver the high-quality care that is Helm Vision Group’s standard.
