Advanced Audiology Remains Longest-Standing Audiologist In Santa Clarita Despite Pandemic Challenges
Nola Aronson of Advanced Audiology is still the longest-standing audiologist in Santa Clarita after 33 years in business.
Aronson used her more than four decades of experience when the pandemic first began to continue to support her patients even while being forced to temporarily close her office’s doors.
“I was surprised that we had to be closed, because we are an essential business,” Aronson said. “We were here for everybody when everybody else was closed, and we did a lot of community service, which is what we’re known for.”
For more than two months, Aronson and her husband worked both over the phone and at curbside, to help those in need, cleaning and repairing hearing aids, helping people correct simple issues over the phone and even mailing supplies out free of charge.
“We helped people for free, clean their hearing aids, get them working again,” Aronson said. “We mailed over 500 patients, free batteries, and hearing aid supplies. We paid for all the postage during these two and a half months. We were closed and not making a penny, but we needed to be here for our patients.”
As a senior herself with an elderly mother, Aronson noted she can relate to what many of her patients are experiencing both in terms of hearing, but also when it comes to isolation during the pandemic.
“We are isolated from others, especially if you’re in an assisted living facility or a nursing home — seniors are not able to get out; they’re not able to socialize,” Aronson said.
This type of isolation creates stress in itself, and coupled with not being able to understand others or the television because of hearing loss, other health issues like depression and dementia could come as a result.
Aronson encouraged those who may be having trouble hearing to schedule an appointment for a free hearing screening at Advanced Audiology. We are now open following CDC guidelines.
“Maybe during this very stressful time you have noticed the hearing issues you’ve been ignoring,” Aronson said, “ So please remember we are here to help you and that it is extremely important to not ignore your hearing problems.”
