Education in Performing Arts
Educators point out several realities for the pursuit of Performing Arts in every young person’s curriculum. A favorite: students that play a musical instrument or sing get better grades or score higher on tests. Another favorite: Young people who play musical instruments, sing or perform in a structured setting tend to be less likely to experiment with drugs or commit crimes in their high school years. All of this is well and good, but in my experience the most important reasons for Performing Arts with ALL ages are of a more universal nature. The Performing Arts in a child’s life with the proper coaching from instructors (AND parents!) helps to build’s self-esteem and confidence- qualities that will help anyone cope with challenges as well as succeed in many life facets.
I feel everyone should be given the chance to be involved with the Performing Arts with respect and encouragement. People of any age can be intimidated by the undertaking of these arts, especially in front of others. Often, I hear people describe themselves as untalented, saying that they wish they could perform, but refrain from trying because of an overwhelming certainty that they could not make anything “good.” The truth is, even talented people experience barriers in performing and nobody is exempt from experiencing limitations. Truer still, you don’t really need to achieve a highly developed technical level to experience the joy of self-expression in Performing Arts. The important thing about arts education is that it gives people of any age an opportunity to engage and to experience joy and personal growth through creative self-expression.
Virtually or In Person, the success of education depends upon cooperation between teacher, student and parent. VIBE Performing Arts endeavors to help all students experience excitement and dedication necessary to help them succeed in life as well as on stage.
