How to Best Prepare for a Remodel
Changing your home is a big decision that must not be taken lightly. Before you begin a remodel, there are a few steps that you should take to ensure that the finished product is exactly what you want.
Have a good idea of what it is that you want. Look around at different examples of the rooms you are going to be remodeling. Visit open houses and model homes, look online for photos and videos, and document everything. Take pictures, print out what you like online, and write notes. Meet with designers and architects. Document not only what you like, but also what you don’t. Making sure that the elements you don’t like are kept out of your home is just as important as incorporating the elements that you love. The more research you do, and the more you know about what you do and don’t want incorporated into your home, the more confident you will be throughout the entire remodel and construction process.
Interview Contractors. Meet with different contractors and find out all that they will offer you. Ask the difficult questions such as what exactly it is that you can expect from them throughout the entire construction process and even after it is completed. Ask to see samples of previous work that they have done. Read the testimonials on their websites, and on other platforms online. Find out who all they have on their team. Will you have to find your own architect and engineer, or do they have someone on their team that is highly recommended? We can advise you to meet with as many contractors as you would like because we are confident that once you meet with us, you won’t have to look any further.
If a deal seems too good to be true, it is. Many unlicensed and inexperienced contractors will promise you the world when it comes to your project, but the end result is less than par. Always verify the contractor’s license information on the Contractors State Licensing Board’s website. cslb.ca.gov This website will also help you verify the type of work that the contractor is experienced in. And when it comes to the construction of your home, experience matters.
