Sinus Disease in the Era of COVID 19
One of the unintended consequences of the lockdowns put in place to stem the spread of the novel coronavius has been a significant delay in treatment of non-COVID related illnesses. Patients with all types of complaints are delaying treatment until their symptoms worsen resulting in typically non-urgent issues becoming emergencies. At SCENT, we have seen a great deal of this problem in our patients suffering from sinus and allergy problems. Many of our patient with symptoms of chronic sinus disease including facial pain and pressure, congestion, post-nasal drip, cough, and general malaise have significantly delayed their treatment over COVID concerns.
While these symptoms can be temporarily managed with medications in some patients, many of our patients will require some sort of procedure for definitive management of their sinonasal issues. Over the past several years, the doctors at SCENT have been honing their skills with the technique of in-office balloon sinuplasty. Drs. Amoils, Vadapalli, Saadat, and Friedman are now balloon sinuplasty experts who can manage many of the most complex sinus and nasal issues in the office setting. This allows for the management of even the most challenging cases without the need for general anesthesia.
In this age of uncertainty, it sometimes seems that things are changing from minute to minute but, as physicians, we know that delaying care results in worsened symptoms and poorer outcomes. AT SCENT, we try to maintain the highest safety standards possible to ensure the best outcomes for our patients. We believe that, even in these difficult times, we can offer the highest quality care in the safest setting possible and we encourage you not to delay seeking treatment. As always, we look forward to seeing you soon. Stay safe.
Sincerely,
Dr. Amoils, Vadapalli, Saadat, Friedman, and the entire SCENT team
