When Is It Time To Ask For Help For Your Teen?

by | Oct 28, 2020 | With Your Family in Mind

A question that is posed to our staff at Insight is when to consider obtaining professional help for their teen. We know that being a teenager is an incredibly difficult developmental stage and raising one can sometimes feel impossible! But when is the time to ask for help? At Insight, we often tell families that the time to seek out professional help is when the family feels that it is at its breaking point and has run out of answers for the questions that are feeling overwhelming. In addition, teens can express their mental health struggles in a variety of ways often confounding their parents! As parents, it can seem overwhelming to try to understand the needs of teens as the way they are communicating feelings through their behaviors can seem confusing and frustrating. It goes without saying that substance abuse further complicates this already complicated situation and often leaves families feeling that they do not know where to turn for help and support. Insight Treatment is here for families in navigating the often-confusing landscape of mental health and substance abuse treatment as we are dedicated to helping teens and families
When considering researching support for your teen, it is important to keep in mind that mental health growth, like physical growth, is a process that takes time and patience. Thus, finding a supportive mental health setting involves understanding the seriousness of the issues that are being expressed by your teen and getting the level of support for your family that is needed to help it have the space and time to grow. This is why we have developed our program as a 12-month program. One of the most important skills that we stress at Insight is finding the resilience of the family and the teen through the support of the community created by the parents and teens in the program by coming together and sharing their stories and struggles. Too often, especially during this pandemic, our teens find themselves feeling alone and isolated from the support of their peer group leaving them with sadness and anxiety. At Insight, our goal is to help teens not feel alone and connected to the supportive community that we provide to help teens and families find their resilience and strength to overcome any obstacles in their way.
Kids that come in with mental health and substance abuse struggles leave our program with a path to their next life steps and the support of their parents for that experience. Insight prides itself on offering a free assessment for families and teens who are interested in our services. Please call 1-888-295-9995.
