Fleanial
Fleanial is the denial that a pet has fleas or could get fleas. These pesky parasites love to live on our beloved pets, causing them to itch. Fleas are blood-sucking parasites that can even carry tapeworm larva, an intestinal parasite. They typically come from the surrounding environment such as parks, walks, yards, or any trip outside. Fleas can jump approximately 20 inches, which is up to 150 times their body size. Not only do they hitch a ride on our furry friends, they come home and become part of our house. The adult female fleas lay eggs, up to 2,000 in their life, which fall off your pet into the environment (sometimes inside your house). As they go from egg, to larva, to pupa, the infestation continues and the environment stays contaminated. Once our pets get these pests they can be a nightmare to get rid of, which is exactly why early prevention is critical to keep your pet healthy, and your home infestation free.
There are many preventative options available from topical preventatives to oral preventative; either way prevention is far easier than treating fleas. A fleas life cycle can last 8 weeks, or longer, depending on environmental conditions. Once fleas are found treatment needs to be continued until all sources of infection are resolved.
