Needs Have No Boundaries
Every day of the year should be a giving and caring day; however, the holidays are upon us, and the needs for the unfortunate get magnified. You can make a difference for an individual, a family or a child in need. There are many ways to help and there are many people who need help. You can give to a Veteran in need, your local Boys and Girls Club, “Toys for Tots” and do not forget your local food bank. It is easy, do a little research, the answers are right there on the internet.
I recently came across the USPS website (uspsoperationsanta.com) “letters to Santa”. After reading a few of the letters, I realized just how fortunate and blessed we are. I noticed one common wish from the letters, usually written by children to Santa was a common message. The kids were hurting more for their parents and for their friends than themselves. They placed themselves behind others with greater needs and that is when I was reminded about the best gift of all; which is the “gift of giving”.
Now more than ever, and especially during these challenging and uncertain times, we can all step up to help one another. So, whatever your religious upbringing, remember that most religious doctrines teach us about love. Love does not have a price; it requires an action. This year you can make a difference. If money is tight for you, you can donate time, or you can scrounge up excess items that others may need. A simple warm coat or that extra unused blanket can make a difference. This year can be different, and we can finish 2020 on a good note.
