Window Film Don’t Wait for Summer
Do you wish you had more efficient windows? Summer or winter, window film is one of the easiest, most cost-effective ways to lower your energy bills – provided you choose the right product and have it installed correctly.
To maximize energy efficiency year-round, it’s crucial to select a high-quality window film. Cheap DIY window tint is prone to bubbling, peeling, delaminating, and cracking -all while failing to provide the benefits you expect.
There are several types of window films designed for solar control. These include:
Metalized or dual-reflective window film: Microscopic pieces of metal in the film reflect light and heat – like a mirror. This reduces interior heat gain and glare with an additional benefit of daytime privacy.
Dyed, pigment, or hybrid window film: A blend of dyes and pigments absorb the sun’s rays. Since the film absorbs light rather than reflecting it, the window doesn’t take on a mirror-like appearance. Many homeowners prefer this more natural appearance. Be aware that this type of window film may strain the glass in extremely hot or sunny settings. It is also slightly less efficient than metalized window film.
Ceramic: Ceramic is one of the most durable, heat-absorbent materials in use today. Ceramic film offers unmatched clarity and comparable heat-blocking benefits without negatively affecting your view or reducing incoming light.
Privacy film: These films are specifically designed to limit view through the glass and add decorative features. Many of these films also offer significant solar rejection and insulative capabilities.
No matter what type of window film you install, the goal is the same – reflect heat back toward the source.
In summer, window film creates a barrier to the sun’s rays, reducing interior heat gain by up to 70 percent. This takes load off your air conditioner and can lower cooling bills by 5 to 10 percent.
In winter, window film reflects heat back to the interior, keeping it inside where it belongs.
Winter and summer blocking harmful UV rays reduce glare which eliminates squinting at electronics and fading of floors, artwork and furniture.
Proper installation is critical. High-quality window film can be difficult to work with, so for best results, call upon a qualified window film installer. We will gladly provide a no-obligation, in-home consultation. Schedule one today.
