Planning For Tomorrow Today
So much has happened since last month. As was shared then, change is indeed the only constant. To begin, on March 1, 2021, the COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic for SCV Educators was opened. My understanding is that the clinic had the capacity to provide up to 3,000 vaccinations in the clinic each week. I was able to be there on the first day of the clinic opening and was able to witness our amazing and dedicated SCV educators waiting in line for their turn to be vaccinated. What a wonderful experience that was. That was followed by the start of competitive athletics for outdoors sports including football, soccer, cross country, track, tennis, softball and baseball. While shorter than normal seasons for some, there are seasons which is something to celebrate! In March we also saw Los Angeles County move from the purple tier to the red tier, another huge change that opened the door for the return to in-person instruction for students in grades 7-12. All these changes to say that it is my hope that by the time you read this article that the William S. Hart Union High School District will have welcomed large numbers of students back to campuses for in-person instruction following our blended learning model!
So many positive changes that are moving us in the right direction towards what we all miss so very much! True, it’s not perfect and there is still much to do before we get back to anything close to normal, but it’s time to take a breathe and smile about where we are today compared to where we were yesterday and to get excited about where we will be tomorrow. On that note, the Board has held monthly special meetings on Saturdays since January with a focus on fostering an exceptional governance team. Work has occurred on establishing a unity of purpose, identifying core values and developing a governance handbook all with a goal of ensuring success for all students through our decisions. This work has been in alignment with the recognition that it is also time to engage the community in helping us set the future direction for the Hart District. As I write this article, it is expected that the Board of Trustees will hear from a subject matter expert about successful processes for working with school districts on strategic planning. This is a journey that very much relies on input from all stakeholders and that means you. I thank you in advance for being our partner in this process as we establish priorities and implement plans to ensure we continue providing educational excellence for all students in the Hart District for years into the future. I look forward to engaging the students, staff and families of the William S. Hart Union High School District as we begin planning for tomorrow today. I am in your service and available at cmoore@hartdistrict.org.
