Gold Together Champions
A cancer diagnosis is overwhelming at any age, but it is particularly devastating when a child is diagnosed. Childhood cancer is the #1 disease-related cause of death for children and adolescents ages 1 to 19. Today, 1 in 5 children who are diagnosed with cancer will not survive.
The American Cancer Society is dedicated to increasing awareness, supporting families facing a diagnosis, and raising funds to end childhood cancer. Spearheading these efforts, childhood brain cancer survivor Cole Eicher created an initiative called the Gold Together Champions campaign which raises funds for the American Cancer Society during September, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
The Gold Together Champions initiative is a leaderboard campaign inaugurated in 2020 during which 286 champions participated nationwide and collectively raised over $300,000. These funds directly support childhood cancer research, education, advocacy and services as well as promote cancer prevention efforts targeting children to help reduce their risk for cancer later in life.
During the month of September, individuals and groups lead the fight against childhood cancer by wearing gold, increasing awareness, and raising funds to support families impacted by the disease. When you selflessly devote your time and energy to lead the fight against cancer, you become the voice of the American Cancer Society in your community.
Become a Gold Together Champion by raising funds for the American Cancer Society this September during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Regional campaigns are now active and champions can sign up online at ACSEngage.org/GoldTogetherChampionsLA to start collecting funds and spreading the word. Top performing participants will be recognized on the ACS website and on a National Impact Event following the campaign in October. You can also become a part of a Gold Together team at the Relay For Life of Santa Clarita Valley!
