Service As A Circle
I see the service performed by the member volunteers of Assistance League® Santa Clarita as a circle. The circle begins at the back gate of our resale store located at 26045 Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus, on Tuesday, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 AM to 12 Noon. At those times, our generous faithful donors arrive. Their vehicles are filled with gently used clothing and other items and treasures that they no longer use. They are met by friendly Assistance League member volunteers who happily gather the donated items and transport them the back room of the store. That is where our magic begins. Dozens of our members sort, group and price all of the donations.
The circle widens to the sales floor. The donated items are placed in beautiful eye-catching displays. Clothing is sorted by size and type, and then hung so a shopper can easily find what is desired. Our equally faithful and enthusiastic customers come through the front doors and purchase the items on display.
The proceeds of Assistance League Resale make it possible for the circle to be continued by funding our philanthropic programs that transform lives and benefit families and individuals in the Santa Clarita community.
Our upcoming philanthropic program is Operation School Bell®, which will again provide new school clothing and shoes for public school students in need. (The students are referred to Assistance League by their schools.) In addition, icare for kids, which provides free examinations and eyeglasses for referred students, will continue.
The circle is now complete. What began at our back gate culminates in elevating students’ self-esteem because they have new clothes for school. For many students, this may be the first time they have had new clothing to wear. The circle is also completed for the student who can see clearly in the classroom for the first time. Thank you for helping us as we strive to keep the circle unbroken and filled with the happy smiles of children.
