SRD Straightening Reins – October 2021
It’s an understatement to say that the last year has been a difficult time for everyone; our governments, businesses, individuals, those at the front lines and the not-for-profits who depend on grant funding and donations to maintain the services they provide. In an effort to support the family members and their children who are especially vulnerable, SRD Straightening Reins continues to offer the individual therapy sessions while maintaining all of the CDC guidelines for protection.
The horses, goats and donkeys were also saddened and frustrated by the loss of attention they normally receive on an ongoing basis. The herd’s main role is to offer comfort and support to those who talk to them, pet them and hug them but due to the directive stating the need for physical distancing, the youth groups who normally visit them were no longer there. Deborah Rocha, Executive Director, continues to receive telephone calls from family members who are in distress and receives weekly referrals for children who need individual counseling services provided at the Ranch. At a time when Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy support was most needed client families were sheltering in place and feeling isolated.
As we move forward from the impact of (COVID-19) and its affects, let us not forget the most vulnerable whose signs may not be outwardly visible to us. The mental health issues that have resulted from this crisis may not manifest themselves for months and as we came together in support of our families and neighbors, lets continue to check in and have those conversations about feelings.
