As We Enter Flu Season Amidst COVID…
… It is certainly important to recognize that these two viruses, influenza and coronavirus, are expected to coexist as we transition through fall and winter. While many have received their COVID vaccine of choice, allowing for a beneficial level of protection against coronavirus or adverse complications of the illness, it will not be the sole level of defense needed for the seasons ahead.
Summer is over. Fall is here. Flu shots are in. To adequately protect yourself and those around you from influenza, be sure to get your flu shot. Flu shots are available for people six months of age and older. Consider immunizing your little ones, particularly now that school is back to in-person instruction. Many kids look forward to nothing more than recess and lunch time with their friends; sharing items, playing on the same playground equipment, and being in close quarters, despite the use of face masks, can put our kids at risk for contracting the flu.
A high-dose flu vaccine is also available, offering a greater level of protection for those 65 and older, who are at higher risk of developing severe flu complications. Let’s keep them safe!
One of the questions I am frequently asked about the flu vaccine this year is: “How soon after the COVID vaccine can I get my flu shot?” According to the CDC, both vaccines, can be given simultaneously. There is no need to wait. Therefore, if you have not yet received a flu shot then make it a point to get one soon.
We at Henry Mayo Urgent Care are happy to provide you with your flu shot, no appointment needed!
In good health,
Angie Luna, R.N.
