Boy, How Time Flies

Becoming the first African-American board president for the William S. Hart Union High School District in the midst of a global pandemic and a racial reckoning meant that a lot of weight was put on what I did at board meetings and what was shared in these monthly articles. The articles had to be impactful, while making us reflect on our values and what we hold most dear. I hope that you have enjoyed them: Looking Towards the Dawn (Jan 2021), The Time in Now (Feb 2021), Change is the Only Constant (March 2021), Planning for Today Tomorrow (April 2021), Finishing Strong (May 2021), To the Class of 2021 (June 2021), Summer, Summer, Summer Time (July 2021), Who We Are and What We Stand For (August 2021), The Way It Is Supposed to Be (September 2021), The Story Continues (October 2021) and This Too Shall Pass (November 2021). It is hard to believe I am writing my final article now…boy, how time flies.
During my tenure, the board agreed on a set of values to anchor us – accountability, collaboration, courage, perseverance, boldness, innovation, equity, fairness, inclusiveness, kindness, respect and integrity. I have tried to model these values at every opportunity, despite the challenges that often presented themselves. We are not the same district today as we were in 2020. I am proud of where we are and the opportunities on the horizon as we continue to serve all students, staff and families in this community in alignment with our values.
Presiding over school board meetings this last year has been one of my greatest joys. Thank you for your trust and confidence in me. As I shared nearly a year ago (and likely on a monthly basis), I am grateful for the remarkable and amazing teachers, administrators, classified staff, students and parents in the Hart District family. And while this may be my last article, it is not the last opportunity to reach me. I remain in your service and can be reached by email at cmoore@hartdistrict.org. I wish you a happy holiday and safe new year.
