City of Santa Clarita is Proud of These Honorees SCV 40 Under Forty

The City of Santa Clarita prides itself on being an organization comprised of dedicated and talented employees who deliver the best and most cost-efficient municipal service to residents. The City values excellence and creativity, as well as taking a humanistic and futuristic approach that ensures decisions will endure the test of time and serve future generations in Santa Clarita. To this end, the City uses a rigorous recruitment process and offers professional development opportunities that challenge employees and develops them into leaders who will guide Santa Clarita into the future. The City proudly recognizes David Knutson, Emily Veldkamp, Kevin Strauss and Tyler Pledger for embodying these qualities and congratulates them on their selection to the prestigious SCV 40 Under Forty Class of 2021.
David Knutson has served as the City’s Arts and Events Administrator since 2016. He began his tenure as a Recreation Leader assisting on events and now leads a robust staff in delivering marquee events to Santa Clarita residents. Under his leadership, the Events division produces the annual Concerts in the Park, as well as world-class events that include the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival and Santa Clarita Marathon.
Emily Veldkamp is a Senior Human Resources Analyst and is responsible for the City’s training and professional development series for staff. During her time with the City, she has enhanced programs such as the Leadership Academy, Supervisor Series, Trade Specialist Series, Mentoring Program and Job Shadowing opportunities. She designed and implemented the City’s award-winning College Internship program, making Santa Clarita the first among benchmark cities to have such a program in place.
Kevin Strauss is a Communications Specialist who has helped strengthen the City’s reputation as a national leader in communications and public information. In addition to leading the City’s social media strategy, he has developed award-winning campaigns such as Heads Up! and is instrumental in providing critical, accurate and timely information to the public during emergency situations.
Tyler Pledger is a Management Analyst in the City’s Public Works department. She was a leader in the acquisition, capital improvement process and opening of The Cube – Ice and Entertainment Center, bringing this beloved Santa Clarita landmark back into operation. Additionally, she took the lead in negotiating a multi-million-dollar contract with the LA Kings to operate the facility.
