A Note From the Publishers – March 2022
Spring is a hopeful season! It brings transformation and change; from darkness to light, from cold to warmth, from grey to bursts of color. It is a time for cleaning house, new growth in gardens, and baby animals. The new life, new beginnings, and bright, colorful new look that spring brings are hopeful signs that life on this earth renews again and again. We don’t remain in any one season or cycle in life indefinitely. Seasons change. The first day of spring in 2022 is Sunday, March 20 at 8:33 a.m., so let’s celebrate and hope for a healthy, successful 2022, that we all deserve!
In this, our spring issue we applaud our local non-profits, each one making plans for a brighter future. There are so many wonderful events taking place in the Santa Clarita Valley over the next few months and we encourage you, our readers to please get involved and participate in any way that you can. You will find it so rewarding knowing that you may have changed lives by doing that small something.
There are certain people we meet during our lifetime who truly make a difference. One great example of this is our dear friend, the late Cheri Fleming.
She and her husband Don have made so many contributions to our valley over many years and we were so happy that her name was immortalized by the City of Santa Clarita when they named a street after her. We will probably drive past Cheri Fleming Auto Center Drive every day and every time we will each remember our own personal interaction with this wonderful lady. It was a cold, rainy February morning when the street dedication took place, but it didn’t stop over one hundred people from showing up to pay their respects and to cheer on the unveiling. Thank you to the City of Santa Clarita for reminding us of Cheri’s great work in Santa Clarita every day.
Cheri was known for her involvement with Soroptimist International, so we are very happy to feature the SIGSCV April 3, Wine Affair “Derby Days” event on our cover this month, it’s always a very fun day of sipping and strolling Main Street in Old Town Newhall. Read the story on page 22.
Another great day of wine and food you may want to attend is the Wish Education Foundation’s “Wine on the Roof,” event. This year they have a new location, and it will be held at the newly opened Canyon Country Community Center on April 28. More information can be found on page 24.
Enough about great wine events, we have something for the kids in this issue! Please turn to page 76 and take a look at all of the wonderful Kid’s Education & Summer Camps being offered in our valley, I am told they fill up quickly, so book early and tell them you saw it in the Santa Clarita Magazine.
You will also find our comprehensive Spring Home & Garden guide in this issue. We have so many great reliable professionals listed you should have no problem finding the right person for any work you may have around your home.
In this month of March, we couldn’t forget about St. Patrick’s Day, you will find lots of restaurants offering the traditional shepherd’s pie or corned beef and cabbage and don’t forget the green beer! So with that, cheeers to a happy March to everyone out there and we hope to see you next month.
