Birthday Piggy
In my book, My Gentle Barn, creating a sanctuary where animals heal and children learn to hope, I explain that pigs are genetically engineered to grow very big, very fast, so they can go to market when they are 3-6 months old, as babies. Because of the genetic engineering, when pigs are allowed to live, by the time they are full grown at 3 years old, they are enormous! This abnormal size creates mobility and respiratory issues once they are older, shortening their life span.
At The Gentle Barn we try very hard to create an environment for our rescued piggies so they can live as long as possible. They are fed a low-calorie diet with plenty of fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, lots of room to exercise, daily Sun Chlorella Algae Super Food to boost their immune systems, and plenty of enrichment to keep them exploring and having fun. As our pigs get older, they get acupuncture, massage therapy, sports medicine therapy, energy healing, and Jill and Joan CBD to keep them mobile and comfortable for even longer. After implementing all these things, our pigs went from living about 4-5 years, to living 10-13 years!
This month, Honey Bear turns 10! We will celebrate his birthday with singing, birthday cake, and lots of tummy rubs. Please join us! Meet Honey Bear, hear his story of resilience, give him belly rubs, and enjoy all our rescued animals at the same time. For more information and for tickets, please go to www.gentlebarn.org
The Gentle Barn is a national non-profit organization located in Santa Carita, California, with locations in St Louis, Missouri and Nashville, Tennessee as well.
