Message from the Mayor Laurene Weste – Spring at the New Canyon Country Community Center
Spring is a season of fresh beginnings and a time to appreciate the beauty of nature that surrounds us. We are fortunate to have 36 amazing parks and nearly 12,000 acres of open space to enjoy this season. I encourage all of you to get outside and take advantage of all the warm weather and mostly green beautiful scenery Santa Clarita has to offer.
At our newest City Community Center, there are many fresh events this spring. The Canyon Country Community Center is hosting two new event series. The first is the Celebrate event series which will take place on the first Friday of the month. April 1 will be the inaugural event taking guests along to celebrate the culture of the Polynesian Islands. Throughout the night, Kalakeke Pacific Is-land Dance Company will share the culture and dance of the Pacific Islands with dances from the islands of Tahiti, Hawaii, New Zealand and Samoa, including a performance from a fire knife dancer. For a delicious taste of island life, Aloha Fridays Hawaiian Food Truck is serving up authentic Hawaiian dishes. You can also try your hand at traditional Polynesian customs and games such as lei making, tiki mask decorating and hula dancing.
On April 27, we will celebrate the grand opening of the new Canyon Country Farmers Market. Hosted by the same team as our Old Town Newhall Farmers Market, this new Wednesday evening shopping experience will feature farm-fresh fruits, vegetables, artisan breads, fresh salsa and even authentic New Orleans cuisine. The taste of fresh and healthy food – right here in Santa Clarita. The Canyon Country Farmers Market will be open Wednesday evenings from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Mercado, at the Canyon Country Community Center.
Celebrate the return of spring with these opportunities to get out and enjoy our beautiful City. I’ll see you around town. Don’t miss it, spring is here.
