A Note From the Publishers – May 2022
“Spring, a lovely reminder of how beautiful change can truly be.”
– Unkown
As a kid growing up in England, May was a month I looked forward to. Traditionally we would kick it off with festivals and garden parties welcoming spring. Dating back to the 17th century, most villages in the UK would erect a maypole on the village green, a maypole is a pole garnished with flowers and ribbon to symbolize a tree. Going back some 400 years, people would dance around the maypole in the hopes of harvesting larger crops. Today the dance is still practiced in most villages in England. When the British settled in the U.S., they brought the maypole tradition with them. In Plymouth, Massachusetts, in 1627, a man named Thomas Morton erected a giant maypole in his field, brewed a batch of hearty mead, and invited village lasses to come “dance” with him, his neighbors were appalled, and the maypole celebration was quashed. That’s my little bit of history shared, now on to this great May issue of the Santa Clarita Magazine.
May is National Hospital month and we are delighted to once again welcome Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital on our cover to celebrate the 49th Annual Frontier Toyota Henry Mayo “Drive Safe” Golf Classic, which will take place on May 9th. This is a major fundraising event for the hospital and supports their Emergency Department. Joe Caso, owner of Frontier Toyota is the title sponsor and many thanks go out to him for his 26 years of support for this event. If you love call the hospital foundation and get involved with a very fun afternoon.
In this issue, we are featuring our 8th annual special Old Town Newhall section. Whenever we visit Main Street and the surrounding area, we are excited by the very fun vibe. It’s just a great place to spend an afternoon shopping or visiting one of the amazing restaurants or wine bars. You will find a great assortment of local businesses just waiting for you to visit. So shop local and support them as much as you can, you will not be sorry!
