Microneedling
Microneedling is a noninvasive procedure that uses a device containing small needles to create micro-injuries in the skin. The punctures stimulate growth factors and cytokines thus causing the formation of new blood vessels and collagen production. These new, healthy cells produce the visible results we are seeking.
Some of these benefits include minimizing fine lines, eliminating facial scars and promoting a youthful, healthy glow. Other reported benefits include decreasing the appearance of large pores as well as lightening hyperpigmentation and sunspots.
Microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) uses the power of your blood’s platelets to reinvigorate cellular turnover. PRP contains a high concentration of stem cells, platelets, and growth factors. These blood components have the unique ability to supercharge collagen and elastin production, which further helps repair skin issues such as fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, and acne scars.
To accomplish microneedling with PRP, a small sample of your blood is collected and spun in a centrifuge to separate the PRP from the red and white blood cells. Topical numbing agents are applied to make the procedure comfortable. The benefits of microneedling begin immediately as your body’s natural healing process kicks in and visible results take several weeks and depend on the condition of your skin as well as your desired outcome. For optimal results, it is recommended to get at least three treatments spaced about 4 weeks apart.
At SCENT Cosmetic we use the SkinPen device which is the first FDA cleared microneedling device which is also engineered and manufactured in the U.S.A. The Skin Pen is clinically proven safe and effective for all skin types and most patients, including those who are not candidates for heat or chemical-based therapies.
