Taking Care of Your Pets
All pets should wear identification tags and be microchipped. If your pet’s ID tag or the contact info contained in their microchip account is outdated, though, it will do little to help reunite you with your furry friend if they ever get lost. Double-check that the contact information on their tag is correct and legible. Log into their microchip account, too, to make sure that everything is correct.
Put Together a Pet Emergency Kit
A pet emergency kit should contain everything you would need to care for your pet for a few days in the event of an emergency. It should be kept in an easy-to-access location, and it should be ready to grab at a moment’s notice in case you ever need to evacuate with your pet. When assembling your kit, it does not need to be anything fancy. It should, however, contain a few important things:
Copies of your pet’s vaccination records and health history
A recent photograph
A five-day supply of clean water and food
Bowls (collapsible ones work great)
Litter box and litter (If you have cats)
Extra collar and leash
A well-stocked pet first aid kit
A list of hotels and shelters in your area that allow pets (in case you need to evacuate your home)
