Aunt Rosie Gained 20 Pounds and Now Susan Has A New Pair of Glasses
During the pandemic, Aunt Rosie binged-watched cooking shows on TV and discovered she had a talent for baking delightful sweets. Of course, she had to eat some of her new creations. Now that the world is open again, her pants and tops seem to have shrunk while hanging in her closet! She decided to get a new wardrobe to fit her new figure, which is more fun than dieting. Aunt Rosie wanted to donate her current clothes to a nonprofit that helps our Santa Clarita Valley. Because she is a smart cookie (cookies did contribute to some of the weight gain), she did her homework and discovered Assistance League of Santa
Clarita®. She was impressed that the Assistance League members are all volunteers who run a resale store to fund philanthropic programs that benefit school-aged children. She learned that she could bring her items to the store on Bouquet Canyon Road on Tuesday, Thursday or Friday mornings from 10AM – Noon. These items would be priced and placed on the sales floor for and the proceeds would support their flagship program Operation School Bell and some of their other philanthropic programs. Operation School Bell provides new school clothes, shoes, eye exams and eyeglasses for TK – 12th grade students in the Santa Clarita Valley.
Meanwhile, at a local elementary school, Susan is a fourth grade student. She was having trouble seeing the board in front of the classroom. Her family’s budget was tight, so her teacher referred her to Assistance League, who provided her with new eyeglasses. The funds for the eye exam and eyeglasses came in part from selling Aunt Rosie’s donated clothes. Susan clearly sees success in her future and Aunt Rosie’s clothes helped Assistance League do a good deed! By the way, after donating her clothes, Aunt Rosie went into the Assistance League Resale Store and that is where she purchased her new outfits. Her new wardrobe fits her new body and it cost her a fraction of the old one. I told you Aunt Rosie is a smart cookie!
