The Paint-It-Forward Movement
In 2005, ALLBRiGHT PAINTING’s Chief Solutionist, Josh Abramson, started Paint-It-Forward as a way to give back to his local SCV community. Since then, Paint-It-Forward and similar paint charity programs have been adopted by other painting contractors across the United States and Canada, truly growing into a movement.
Inspired by Abramson’s model, The Painting Contractors Association (PCA) is creating a month-long event this October where as many PCA member companies as possible will come together to improve their local communities.
How Paint-It-Forward Began
ALLBRiGHT PAINTING was invited to participate in ABC’s Extreme Home Makeover in 2005. On the show, Abramson and his team helped transform a house owned by a family in need into their dream home. Because of the inspiration and uplifting experience, this led Abramson to think, “Why do we have to wait for a TV show for us to be able to come in to do this for our community?”
The Growth of Paint-It-Forward
All the major paint manufacturers like, Dunn Edwards, Behr, and Vista Paints played a part in the growth of this movement, but its Sherwin Williams Paints that played a substantial role in the growth of Paint-It-Forward. They asked Joshua Abramson of ALLBRiGHT PAINTING to speak to other painting contractors that were learning the ropes on how to grow a business and be successful in the painting industry.
“I started to incorporate one of the things we love doing at our company, the Paint-It-Forward event, and how it has changed our company, made it better, and how we get business from it. So many customers want to use us, because they know we are willing to help the community and they feel like they can trust us,” said Abramson.
Eventually, after going around and speaking with many painting contractors, people were inspired by Paint-It-Forward and wanted to follow suit, pushing Abramson to create a guide to help people get started. Once multiple painting companies were helping their communities, Abramson knew that the Paint-It-Forward event had now turned into a movement that would continue to create a lasting impact on the entire painting industry.
The Talent of a Craftsmen
Paint-It-Forward was further inspired by the idea to be thankful for the talents that a craftsman has been given, and for those that work on the ALLBRiGHT PAINTING team to understand that they have talent and can help people in need with their skill.
“A lot of times someone may feel like they don’t have anything to give or maybe they don’t have enough money and all that, but we said, ‘Let’s change that and be thankful for all the work that our community provides us by giving back,’” said Abramson.
Abramson also expressed that everyone has the desire to make their life count and to do something that helps better humanity, which is why Paint-It-Forward is so rewarding for Abramson and his team to be a part of, not just as the company that started it.
How To Take Part in the Movement
ALLBRiGHT is always looking for ways to give back to the community, and thanks to Paint-It-Forward, they can continue to do just that. From now until September 23rd, members of the SCV can register a story on our website about how help a person, place, or organization in our community with a charitable project. After we all vote on the recipient, the big event and project will take place in October of 2022 to continue to spread the movement and impact members of our SCV community and on a greater scale with many of the PCA members across the USA.
“This will be our kick-off year, and we plan on making this a part of PCA’s DNA going forward so that every painting company is aware of this and is prepared to engage in October with an event in their community,” said President of PCA Nigel Costolloe.
