A Note From the Publishers – October 2022
As an expat of England, I was personally moved and a little emotional by the passing of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8. Even though I have lived in the USA for almost 40 years, I still have a strong connection to the customs and traditions of England. I thought the Queen would reign forever and 70 years was certainly an eternity and an amazing accomplishment. I believe that my very first memory as a 2-year old was the Queen’s Coronation in 1953. it was a special day when my family, along with thousands of people gathered in local parks to celebrate. Time certainly goes by quickly. It will be interesting to see what changes King Charles III will make during his reign, he has big ideas about climate change, urban blight, organic farming and a proufound dislike of modern architecture. The eyes of the world are upon him as he assumes the role of King and I guess only time will tell.
You could be the one to make a change by getting involved with Breast Cancer Awareness month during October. Yes, it’s October already! We have so many events on our calendar, I’m not sure how we are going to get through them all this month! Just kidding, we love our non-profits and we try not to miss anything that goes on in the SCV.
Just take a look at our cover this month, three fabulous, themed parties that every member of your family can participate in.
Circle of Hope is hosting their afternoon tea on October 22. The theme this year is A Walk Through the Secret Garden and it is expected to sell out so give them a call and buy your tickets to the funnest tea party in town, you even get to design your very own table!
The 10th Annual SCV Charity Chili Cook-off is back! This year the event will benefit Fix n Fidos and The Baker Family Foundation. Nicole Stinson and Steve Portaro always do a spectacular job of putting on a very fun event and even more so this year with the location being at MB2 Entertainment. Taste the best chili in town on October 28 all for a great cause.
Valley Industrial Association will be celebrating their VIA Bash this year with a fabulous Moroccan themed party, it sounds very exotic so dress appropriately in your brightly colored kaftans. Save the date for this on November 4 at the Hyatt Valencia.
Show your support for our local candidates, we have our Meet the Candidates section which we hope will help you make your decision on November 8 when you get out and vote.
SCV 40 Under Forty nominations for 2022 are now closed! With a total of 79 entries, our panel of judges now has the difficult task of choosing just 40 individuals. If you have been nominated, the list is on page 28, please send in your paperwork as soon as possible to be considered. The main event this year will take place on November 17 at Blomgren Ranch.
