Meet the Candidate Laurene Weste Running for City Council
Laurene Weste was first elected to the Santa Clarita city council in 1998. She is currently serving her sixth term as mayor. She has proven track record of being a strong advocate for protecting open spaces and strengthening the Santa Clarita economy. As a member of the Commission for the City Parks and Recreation Commission, Laurene preserved nearly 13,000 acres of open space and established several beloved parks. Laurene also serves as Director of the Santa Clarita Valley Committee on Aging and has advocated for senior home consecution and worked to create the new Senior Center. Laurene Weste is passionate about the future of Santa Clarita. She is excited to preserve even more open space, protect the Santa Clara River, and continue the exciting Old Town Newhall revitalization project.

1. Protect Taxpayers and Grow Our Economy: Laurene Weste is a faithful steward of taxpayer funds and has a proven track record of strengthening our local economy. Laurene has expanded economic development projects to create more local jobs and boost our economy. She’s worked to increase Santa Clarita’s budget reserve to over $19 million, protecting taxpayers from future economic downturns.
2. Preserve Our Open Space and Environment: Laurene is a proven leader in protecting our environment and beautiful open spaces. She has overseen the establishment of numerous parks and formed an open space district to stop sprawl and preserve open spaces by acquiring nearly 13,000 acres of land. Laurene also created our beloved trail system that stretches over 100 miles across Santa Clarita. Santa Clarita’s beautiful parks and open land have no better advocate in City Hall than Laurene Weste.
3. Support Public Safety and Enhance Our Community: Laurene is committed to the safety of Santa Clarita. She has enhanced public safety and worked to keep our streets safe. Laurene also strongly opposed establishing a prison for violent felons near residential homes in Saugus. Santa Clarita is an incredible place to live, and Laurene Weste is committed to the safety and security of every resident.
