Happy Thanksgiving!
November is known as the month of giving thanks. It is also an important month for our pets. In November we celebrate; National Cook for Your Pets Day (Nov. 1), the National Animal Shelter & Rescue Appreciation Week (Nov. 6-12), National Canine Lymphoma Awareness Day (Nov. 7), and Fancy Rat & Mouse Day (Nov. 12). Ending the month with Small Business Saturday (Nov.26).
Since November is a month about giving, we want you to consider the Slick’s Fund as your charity of choice. Many years ago, Dr. Tracy McFarland started a little fund here in her feline only veterinary practice called Slick’s Fund. This fund is named after a Siamese cat we called Slick who waas shot, and his spinal cord severed leaving him paralyzed. With the excellent care he received from Dr. Tracy and her team, he lived a long life with no use of his rear legs. To find out more about Slick the cat go to his website. www.slicksfund.com. Many generous clients, the public, The Cat Doctor, and Dr. Tracy herself have donated to this fund over the years. We use the fund to help cats get the medical care they need when a cat is found as a stray by a good Samaritan or when the owner fell on such hard times it came down to making a decision about putting food on the table or find out what was wrong with their beloved companion. I feel we can all sympathize with this struggle some people face. Currently this fund is used exclusively here in the SCV. After Dr. Tracy passed away, we felt the need to change the fund’s status to a non-profit. Now all the donations we receive are tax deductible! We have been able to help hundreds of cats get the medical care they need. Because of the pandemic we have not been able to fundraise the past couple years like we had hoped to. With the pandemic under control for the moment, we are looking at starting some events to help Slick’s Fund continue the mission Dr. Tracy started many years ago. Our hope is that you will visit the Slick’s Fund website at www.slicksfund.com and make a donation. If that is not possible and you shop on Amazon, please consider using the Amazon.smile.com and list Slick’s Fund as your charitable organization. A small percentage of what you purchase will go directly to the Slick’s Fund to help cats. If you rather send in a donation, please make checks payable to “Slick’s Fund” and address to: Slick’s Fund, 26055 Bouquet Canyon Rd., Santa Clarita, Ca. 91350. For any other correspondence you can email us at slicksfund@gmail.com. Happy Thanksgiving and Thank you!
