Meet the Candidate Selina Thomas Running for City Council
Selina Thomas is running for a seat on the Santa Clarita city council because a fresh, new vision is needed to maintain and broaden SCV’s stellar qualities without compromising things that make SCV a great place to live. Selina has a 5 POINT PLAN for addressing the issues that affect residents in Santa Clarita:
1. Establish a TASK FORCE with representatives from local law enforcement, treatment and healthcare professionals, clergy, education, and parent and youth leaders to create an effective, timely plan for dealing with the FENTANYL CRISIS.
2. Continue the excellent work the council has done to create a safe, attractive community and expand on it with a SMART GROWTH INITIATIVE that will encourage infill projects and projects that will be self-sustaining. Vista Canyon, a transit-oriented, mixed-use community in Canyon Country includes a water recycling plant, housing and commercial space. When finished, the community will have its own metro stop with a parking lot and roads to alleviate traffic. Selina believes this is the future for Santa Clarita. Attracting more dining and retail options to the city is a high priority.
3. Encourage the creation of a COALITION to address HOMELESSNESS in our city, specifically Measure H. Selina’s proposed coalition would be tasked with finding effective solutions with backing and resources from the city.
4. Support making Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Hall in Sylmar a Secure Youth Treatment Facility rather than Camp Scott which is in a residential area in our city limits.
5. Propose QUARTERLY TOWN HALLS and SMALL BUSINESS ROUNDTABLES to create dialog between the community and the council. Her COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT proposal includes collaboration with COC on job fairs and support for COC’s Economic Development Division.
As founder and owner of 6 Degrees HR Consulting, Selina has helped hundreds of small businesses, locally, nationally and internationally, to manage their Human Resources needs. Prior to founding her business, she was a social worker in Kern County for 8 years. She has lived in SCV for 12 years and raised her 3 daughters here. On November 8, vote SELINA THOMAS for City Council!
