SPRAVATO TREATMENT
What is SPRAVATO (esketamine) Nasal Spray
SPRAVATO is the first FDA approved nasal spray used along with an antidepressant to treat:
Adults with treatment-resistant depression (TRD)
Depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder (MDD) with suicidal thoughts or actions
If you’ve tried two or more antidepressants and are still struggling with depressive symptoms or have depression symptoms with major depression disorder with suicidal thoughts or actions, you are a good candidate for SPRAVATO. It works much more rapidly than traditional antidepressants. Studies have shown that most patients feel at least 50% better after having six treatments. SPRAVATO is a groundbreaking treatment for depression that is giving people more hope than ever before.
SPRAVATO is only available through a restricted program called SPRAVATO Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) Program. SPRAVATO nasal spray can only be administered at healthcare settings (e.g., medical offices and clinics) and Healthy Mind Psychiatry is a certified REMS clinic. Most insurances cover the SPRAVATO treatment.
Dosage and Administration
SPRAVATO is administered intranasally under the supervision of health care provider in a certified REMS clinic. Treatments are usually induction and maintenance phases. For more details, please call Healthy Mind Psychiatry.
Contraindications
SPRAVATO is contraindicated in patients with:
Aneurysmal vascular disease
Arteriovenous malformation.
History of intracerebral hemorrhage
Hypersensitivity to esketamine, ketamine, or any of the excipients.
Side Effects
SPRAVATO may cause some sleepiness (sedation), feeling of disconnected from yourself, space and time, nausea, and vomiting. These side effects usually happen right after taking SPRAVATO and go away the same day. Healthy Mind Psychiatry team will monitor you for any side effects for a least 2 hours after taking SPRAVATO. Team will decide when you are ready to leave the office and you must have a designated person to pick you up.
