Electric or Manual Toothbrush, Which is Better ?
Let’s face it, If not looking at the eyes, people look at others’ teeth while talking. Having visibly white and nice teeth is an indication that one takes care of oneself.
Brushing your teeth and cleaning your tongue has been a staple in almost everyone’s everyday hygiene regimen. Brushing removed excess food stuck between the teeth and plaque from the gums. However, with the wide variety and complexity of food everyone eats nowadays, brushing is just not enough to achieve white teeth and fresh breath. A recent study suggested that while the manual toothbrush did an acceptable job, the electric toothbrush cleaned significantly better.
Regular manual toothbrushing removes only the food and plaque from the surface of the teeth and gums. On the other hand, the electric toothbrush penetrates more than the top of the teeth and slighthly below the gum ,resulting in maximum plaque removal and all over clean mouth.
One of the advantages of an electric toothbrush is that it moves faster for deeper teeth cleaning. It also penetrates under the gumline which is very helpful in reducing gingivitis. People using manual toothbrush tends to brush harder than those using an electric toothbrush. Some people think this is a good thing, the harder they brush the cleaner it gets. Not true. However if the teeth are brushed too hard, the tissue that covers the teeth can be damaged. It can cause gum recession. In addition, brushing too hard strips the protective layer of enamel which makes the teeth more sensitive to heat, cold and other stimuli. An electric toothbrush requires less pressure, leaving the gum tissue and teeth with minimal damage.
Along with using an electric toothbrush, toothpaste with fluoride, regular flossing and a regular visit to your trusted dental professional, this is a sure way of ensuring a bright teeth and healthy mouth.
