Burrtec Waste Industries To Replace Waste Management as Santa Clarita’s Residential Trash Hauler

Starting July 1, 2023, Burrtec Waste Industries will become the new franchised, residential solid waste hauler for the City of Santa Clarita, replacing Waste Management. Burrtec was awarded the exclusive residential and commercial waste services contract after a competitive bid process in 2022.
As Burrtec gears up for the conversion, the company is excited to provide its exceptional service to the community. Burrtec will continue to service commercial businesses in Santa Clarita along with residential services in the unincorporated county areas.
Residents will notice a few changes beginning July 1. The current WM carts and bins will be replaced by new carts from Burrtec, with the cart transition taking place over approximately nine weeks. Until then, continue to utilize your green waste carts as usual. An interactive map will be made available for residents to track when their carts will be exchanged.
It’s important for residents to note that the new carts will include a new statewide color scheme with black carts for garbage, blue carts for recycling, and green carts for organics, which will include yard waste and bagged food waste. The new carts will be clearly labeled with a list of acceptable materials.
Additionally, residents should take note that all households are required by Senate Bill 1383 and City ordinance to participate in the new food waste recycling program. To simplify this process, Burrtec will provide small, kitchen food waste pails containing instructions on how to recycle your food waste. These will be delivered with the new set of carts. Residents will be asked to separately bag food waste, and instead of placing them in the garbage cart, place them in the green organics cart. Residents eager to get started may place bagged food waste in their existing green waste cart after July 1.
In the coming weeks, residents can expect to receive a postcard with a unique ID number and a QR code, allowing them to select the ideal cart sizes that fit their needs. Burrtec will provide standard 96-gallon carts for those who do not submit a request for different sizes. In addition, a welcome package with detailed instructions, other services offered by Burrtec and new billing information will be sent to all residents prior to July 1.
