Female Physicians Team Up to Bring Comprehensive Cancer Care Services to the SCV
In May, we celebrate Mother’s Day and International Women’s Health Day. With that in mind, we wanted to spotlight the outstanding team of female physicians affiliated with Keck Medicine and Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital who are collaborating to bring expanded cancer care services to the Santa Clarita Valley.
USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, a part of Keck Medicine, is one of the original eight comprehensive cancer centers designated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Our clinicians practicing in Santa Clarita use the latest cancer treatment options to deliver personalized care to our patients each step of the way in their cancer journey.
Medical Oncology
Monica El-Masry, MD, is a general oncologist and hematologist who is triple board certified in internal medicine, medical oncology and hematology. Dr. El-Masry regularly incorporates psychosocial support, nutrition counseling and lifestyle modifications — such as exercise and healthy eating habits — into conventional treatments to offer her patients a personalized, holistic approach to cancer care.
Dr. El-Masry strives to treat every patient like family, with consideration of an individual’s medical needs as well as their cultural, religious and personal values. She values the team approach practiced at Keck Medicine, where clinicians work together to find the most advanced, innovative and appropriate treatments.
Radiation Oncology
May Lin Tao, MD, MSHS serves as Medical Director of Keck Medicine of USC/Henry Mayo Cancer Center in Santa Clarita and is lead physician for its Radiation Oncology clinic. She specializes in the treatment of diverse cancer including breast, prostate, brain, lung, rectal, head and neck, and skin cancers.
Dr. Tao strives to deliver the latest evidence-based treatments with an approach that is sensitive to her patients’ needs and desires. Recognizing the complex nature of cancer care, she believes in the importance of patient education, communication, and personalized navigation for the optimal care experience and best outcomes. With over two decades of experience caring for patient across Southern California, Dr. Tao consistently receives high praise from her many patients who laud her skills, knowledge, and compassionate care.
Breast Surgical Oncology
Amanda M. Woodworth, MD, FACS, CPE, is a board-certified breast cancer surgeon who delivers comprehensive breast care — from risk assessment, genetic testing, risk reduction and various biopsy techniques to hidden-scar surgeries, oncoplastics, lumpectomies and mastectomies, including skin- and nipple-sparing, flat closure, modified radical and total. Dr. Woodworth serves as Director of Breast Health at Keck Medicine of USC/Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Valencia, CA. Her research interests focus on breast cancer risk and prevention, along with targeted therapies for different types of breast cancer.
Dr. Woodworth takes the time to get to know each patient and incorporates their lifestyle, concerns and tumor biology into the surgical planning and timing. She feels strongly that providing a “team approach” to breast cancer care, with the patient in the center, takes the struggle out of the patient’s cancer journey.
Radiology
Doctors El-Masry, Tao and Woodworth work in close collaboration with the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center to develop personalized care plans for patients who are diagnosed with breast cancer. Anjali Date, MD, is Medical Director of the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Center. Dr. Date completed medical school and received her residency training in Diagnostic Radiology at the New York University School of Medicine, and then completed a subspecialty fellowship in Breast and Abdominal Imaging at Columbia University Medical Center.
As most breast cancer patients are women, having an all-women team of specialists sets our program apart from any others in the Santa Clarita Valley.
