Raising Young People with Animals
I am the owner of Oak Canyon Equestrian Center. I have been in the horse business for many years and have raised several children both my own, my nieces, my neighbors, cousins, etc. I have never found anything that keeps kids more grounded than animals. Horses give kids something to love that they feel loves them back. No strings attached. No alternative motives. No talking behind their back. Just love.
I can’t tell you how many times I found children in the stall with their horse telling them the horrible things that happened to them in school that day. Some things may not seem horrible to us but to them it’s huge.
They will tell their horse things they will never tell anyone else.
Horses seem to bring us all back to what is really important in life. They take us away from all the differences in life and give us something we can agree on. Somehow playing in the dirt is good for the soul.
This year in addition to all the animals we’ve had in the past we also have four adorable mini horses and three wonderful goats.
There’s nothing more precious than a newborn foal hanging out with the children. We are so fortunate to have new foals every year at Oak Canyon. This year is no exception. Bring your children to our ranch for Summer Camp. It’s an experience they will never forget. For more in-formation or to enroll call me at 661-259-5191.
