Typical Steps for Cosmetic Treatments Santa Clarita Valley Dental Care
Many cosmetic procedures might require an x-ray to have a better idea of the damage to your existing teeth or their current health. A mold of your current teeth might also be made depending on the procedure you having done. The following is a brief overview of some of our most popular cosmetic procedures:
Professional Teeth Whitening: Our teeth naturally become stained from food, drink, and other factors over the years. Extrinsic stains as they are know, can in fact be removed without resorting to bleaching. While many over-the-counter teeth whitening products promise results, oftentimes the claims are exaggerated and the results are far from dramatic.
Veneers, Crowns, & Implants: Each of these either replaces or shields damaged teeth and restores tooth function and/or aesthetics. Veneers can be thought of as covers for the front of a patient’s teeth that either hide stains or shield damaged teeth. Crowns, however, cover the entire tooth as a cap, usually following a root canal. Finally, implants completely replace damaged or missing teeth to restore functionality in the most healthy, convenient and attractive manner possible.
Inlays and Onlays: Inlays and onlays are used to protect and restore function to damaged teeth in the back of a patient’s mouth that aren’t necessarily in need of crowns or replacement.
Invisalign Braces and Retainers: As the name suggests, these are clear braces that serve as an alternative to traditional wire braces. Invisalign braces eliminate the need to watch what you’re eating, as you have the option of removing them and putting them back in your mouth whenever you want.
Bonding to Repair Chipped Teeth: As patients mature, teeth become more prone to chipping. Bonding chipped teeth can help to restore the beauty of a patient’s smile. Bonding involves applying a putty-like composite resin to the surface of a tooth that is decayed or discolored, and is less invasive and more cost-effective than veneers or crowns. The resin is matched to the same color as your enamel so that afterwards, you’ll hardly notice the difference between the resin and your natural teeth.
