Embracing Patriotism, Community, and Fun in Old Town Newhall

by | Jun 28, 2023 | Old Town Newhall

Throughout our nation’s history, the United States has embodied qualities of courage, strength, purity, resilience, and justice, symbolized by the colors of our flag: red, white, and blue. From the moment the Declaration of Independence was signed, communities from coast to coast have united to commemorate these values through backyard barbecues, parades, fireworks, and various other festivities, each year surpassing the previous in grandeur and inclusivity.

The Santa Clarita Valley, like countless others, upholds this cherished tradition. On our cover, we proudly present the remarkable business owners of Old Town Newhall, showcasing their community spirit and setting a festive tone for the entire month of July. The vibrant and dynamic nature of Old Town Newhall is well-known to the local community, as it offers a multitude of enjoyable and captivating experiences day and night. Spanning five blocks, including Main Street, Market Street, Walnut Street, and Railroad Avenue, this area encompasses charming boutiques for shopping and delightful restaurants for culinary delights, ensuring that a visit to Old Town Newhall is always a memorable experience.

A leisurely stroll down Main Street reveals a mesmerizing blend of modern developments and classic Western charm. Since its inception in 1997, Old Town Newhall has evolved from a visionary dream into a melting pot of multicultural and diverse encounters. With its rich historical significance deeply woven into the fabric of Santa Clarita’s heritage, this district proudly hosts historical landmarks, monuments, and community traditions that date back to the 1930s.

Each year, the Santa Clarita Valley wholeheartedly celebrates its history with the Fourth of July Parade in Old Town Newhall. Originating in 1932, this parade stands as the centerpiece of our July festivities and has become a cherished multigenerational tradition for many families in our community.

Mayor Jason Gibbs of Santa Clarita expresses the city’s deep-rooted patriotism and unwavering support for the nation’s armed forces, veterans, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. He eagerly anticipates the holiday celebrations, especially the parade, which remains one of the community’s longest-standing events. As he travels the parade route, he delights in waving to countless residents, neighbors, and friends.

This annual parade beautifully showcases patriotic themes, paying tribute to significant events and individuals in American history in an exciting manner. Originally organized by the Newhall Saugus Kiwanis, the parade came under the management of the American Legion Post 507 in 1938. In 1955, the “Old West” association assumed responsibility, leading the parade for over 85 years. Each year, thousands of families line the streets, making this grand spectacle a cornerstone of our July festivities. Undoubtedly, this year’s parade promises to leave an indelible mark in the history books.
