Engine Dynamics – Stay Safe On The Road
Seasonable car maintenance will do more than keep your car running smoothly it will save you money because you will be improving your car’s trade-in value, getting the utmost out of mile-age and preventing costly repairs in the near future! When you service your vehicle on a regular basis and maintain a maintenance schedule then you are playing a huge role in preventive maintenance and in staying safe on the road. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administra-tion says that about one in eight crashes can be attributed to mechanical defects due to ne-glected car maintenance. That is a sad statement to make but if you keep your car serviced and maintained on a regular basis then the statistics are in your favor.
With summer here, let’s look at what you can do to avoid costly repairs and to guarantee your safety going into a new season.
Start with an oil and filter change, coolant service and a safety check. Typically, coolant should be changed every two years but in many new vehicles it may last up to about five years. It’s a good idea to have an emergency kit in your car. As a Californian, this is a necessity due to earthquakes! Make sure you have in your kit a pair of gloves, shoes for walking, blankets, flares, flashlight and water! It doesn’t hurt to have a few high energy bars or snacks in your glove box too! And be sure to have your tires checked, it may be time for new tires!
Just remember there is really no reason to put off or avoid getting your car serviced, why wait? Your car will be more reliable if taken care of in the Summer and Fall months and your family safety ensured.
