It’s Easy To Use Your New Food Waste Pail – Burrtec
Burrtec is dedicated to serving the City of Santa Clarita residents with efficient waste services and excellent customer service. By now, you should have received a welcome package containing all the necessary information about our services and new billing details. We are committed to making this transition as seamless as possible and are available to address any questions or concerns you may have.
As industry leaders, it is important to Burrtec that we not only remain experts regarding waste disposal services and recycling but also stay informed and compliant with California regulations and legislation. With the passing of Senate Bill 1383, California residences and businesses will be required to separate organic waste from other garbage and non-organic recyclables and participate in an organics collection program. SB 1383 aims to divert organic waste from landfills, targeting a 75 percent reduction of the statewide disposal of organic waste by 2025.
Burrtec is in the process of delivering kitchen food waste pails, along with new carts for residents. Upon receiving the pail, residents will be asked to immediately begin separating any food waste that would otherwise be thrown in the garbage cart. We are here to make it as easy as possible for you to participate in food waste recycling.
To utilize your new food waste pail effectively, follow these easy steps:
1. Collect food waste separate from your other garbage and recycling.
2. Please line your kitchen pail with a plastic bag and add your food waste and scraps directly into the lined pail. Bags do not need to be bio-degradable or compostable. Food waste includes fruits, vegetables, cooked meat, dairy, eggshells, bread, coffee grounds, food scraps, food soiled paper, expired food and plate scrapings.
3. Once full, secure the bag and add it to your green organics cart, along with your loose green waste. Plastic bags will be separated during processing, and the food waste will be processed for compost.
By separating your food waste from other types of waste, you contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Organic waste, when disposed of in landfills, releases harmful gases such as methane, a potent greenhouse gas which is more than 25 times as potent as carbon dioxide at trapping heat in the atmosphere. Over the last two centuries, methane concentrations in the atmosphere have more than doubled, largely due to human-related activities. However, by diverting food waste from landfills, Burrtec ensures that it is properly managed through composting. Thank you for making a positive impact and creating a better future for our community. Together, we can make a difference!
